Format re-serializes your YAML with clean, consistent indentation. Compact converts nested structures to curly-brace flow style ({a: 1}) for dense one-liners.

Comments are not preserved - the formatter parses and re-serializes the document. Invalid YAML surfaces as an error with the offending line and column.
